Vega Quartet Student Showcase

The Emory Youth Chamber Program (EYCP) provides intensive small ensemble training to young Atlanta-area pianists and string players. Students are generally 10-18 years old and are placed in groups of two to five musicians. Over the course of the semester groups receive eight coaching sessions from members of the Vega Quartet and participate in masterclasses with the Quartet as well as with guest artists.

Local, classical guitarists Scott Plato and Matthias Young perform for the Cannon Classical Music Series.
Scott Plato received his Bachelor's degree in classical guitar performance from Georgia State University under the instruction of John Sutherland, a protegé of Andres Segovia. Scott then completed a Master of Music degree from Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado. In 1995 Scott founded the guitar department at Gainesville College in Gainesville Georgia and was the Head of Guitar Studies there until 2000.
Matthias Young is the Director of Music and Worship Production at Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, GA. His skills as both a classical and rock guitarist have allowed him to build a strong music program incorporating elements of both traditional and contemporary music in worship. Also a student of John Sutherland, Matthias studied at Berry College, Georgia State University, and Boston University. He currently teaches guitar at Truett McConnell University in Cleveland, GA.

Franklin Pond Chamber Music

Franklin Pond Chamber Music is a year-round chamber music program for young string students in grades 6 through 12. Through the study of chamber music, students develop their artistic and interpretive talents as well as strengthen their leadership, expression, and communication skills. Students have regular coachings with faculty members from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, masterclasses with guest artists from all over the nation, special classes such as career development, eurhythmics, Alexander Technique, and multiple opportunities to perform in public.
Hiroya Tsukamoto, Guitarist and composer

Hiroya Tsukamoto is an innovative guitarist and composer who fuses folk, jazz, and world music. Born and raised in Japan, in 2000 he received a scholarship to Berklee College of music and came to the U.S.
Tsukamoto's instrumental abilities are indeed breathtaking and astounding, but his performances are so much more than that. He has the unique capability of engaging an audience thru a personable and genuine approach that transfixes his audience and almost transcends his capabilities as a guitarist. Audience members will be mesmerized; Tsukamoto plays with an effortless skill on the guitar and a repertoire that will have you traveling the world, not to mention experiencing new sounds with his own compositions.
Tsukamoto headlines concerts throughout the U.S. as well as internationally including Blue Note in NYC, United Nations and Japanese National Television. Hiroya won 2nd place in International Finger Style Guitar Championship in 2018.
Revien, Guitar, Cello

Revien is a contemporary chamber ensemble consisting of three members of the Georgia Guitar Quartet, with Phil Snyder on cello, Kyle Dawkins on guitars and electronics, and Brian Smith on guitars and electronics. All graduates of the University of Georgia Hugh Hodgson School of Music, the trio embraces the classical repertoire and draws from the energy of rock and pop music as well incorporated into their programs.
Playing in a collection of Athens bands throughout their seventeen years together, the trio is equally at home in rock and chamber music lineups, and creates a compelling program for audiences, incorporating modern tech and prepared enhancements on their instruments - you might hear guitars and cello used as percussion, or guitar strings fitted with found objects to sound more like a sitar or an Indonesian gamelan, for instance.
The trio is regularly featured on NPR's Performance Today. Their most recent album, Dama, consists of all original compositions by the members.
