FABRIC BASKET CLASS
Instructor Gene Pease
No experience necessary! In about 4 hours, with no prior skill and very little preparation, you'll learn:
- Tools needed to make a basic coiled fabric basket
- Basics of coiled fabric basket construction
- One or two fabric basket stitches
- How to finish a basic coiled fabric basket
By the time the class is finished, you will have created 1 coiled fabric basket about
3 inches wide x 4 inches tall with straight sides. No sewing with needle and thread, no machine or glue required!
Gene's fabric baskets are made the old fashioned way - with a twist. She covers a cordage
with beautiful fabrics just like they did in the olden days. She also weaves the fabric in and around the
coils just like they did in the olden days. No sewing machine, sewing needle, thread or glue is used in the
making of these baskets. The new twist is that instead of cotton cordage or
grass cordage, she uses plastic shopping bags! She stretches those ubiquitous bags out, rolls them up,
then hides them so no one will ever see those bags again. She's hidden about 7,000 plastic bags in
beautiful fabric baskets!
Gene's appreciation for textiles and creative talents include hand weaving,
wet and needle felting, crochet, twining, cross stitch, ribbon and floss embroidery and the very old
fashioned filet lace.
