LEATHER ART CLASS
Instructor Tom Slavicek
You will have time to make a leather shoulder bag of your choice, or choose from any of the following projects: Leather belt, wallet, passport wallet, journal, phone belt pouch, drawstring pouch, lady's wallet, clutch purse and more.
Depending on the project you will be able to learn techniques of cutting leather and stitching styles. If desired, you can learn how to use a wood burning tool to inscribe a design directly on to the leather and then colorize it.
All leathers, materials, tools and instructions are provided, along with templates. No artistic ability is necessary, nor is any previous leather working experience. You do not need to bring anything except lunch, enthusiasm, and your desire to make something beautiful.
FABRIC BASKET CLASS
Instructor Gene Pease
No experience necessary! In about 4 hours, with no prior skill and very little preparation, you'll learn:
- Tools needed to make a basic coiled fabric basket
- Basics of coiled fabric basket construction
- One or two fabric basket stitches
- How to finish a basic coiled fabric basket
By the time the class is finished, you will have created 1 coiled fabric basket about 3 inches wide x 4 inches tall with straight sides. No sewing with needle and thread, no machine or glue required!
Gene's fabric baskets are made the old fashioned way - with a twist. She covers a cordage with beautiful fabrics just like they did in the olden days. She also weaves the fabric in and around the coils just like they did in the olden days. No sewing machine, sewing needle, thread or glue is used in the making of these baskets. The new twist is that instead of cotton cordage or grass cordage, she uses plastic shopping bags! She stretches those ubiquitous bags out, rolls them up, then hides them so no one will ever see those bags again. She's hidden about 7,000 plastic bags in beautiful fabric baskets!
Gene's appreciation for textiles and creative talents include hand weaving, wet and needle felting, crochet, twining, cross stitch, ribbon and floss embroidery and the very old fashioned filet lace.
HERITAGE SERIES: Macrame, A knotty look at sailors!

The class is an installment in our Heritage Art and Craft Series. Call Jim Thomas at 706-878-3300 for more information.
COMMUNITY MEDITATION with Eric Graves
Meditation is said to be mind's gift to itself. In this 15-to-20-minute guided meditation beginners as well as advanced practitioners will use breath, visualization, and mantra to rest in the nature of mind. A brief introductory talk will be given for those new to meditation and/or curious about basic Buddhist principles. We will have a few available cushions but bringing your own can only help. There is no charge, but donations for the space and tea are happily accepted. Contact Eric Graves at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
OPEN STUDIO WATERCOLOR PAINTING

Please contact Allison Hawkins at email@example.com or Cathy Bente at firstname.lastname@example.org to let them know you will be attending no later than noon on the Wednesday, the day before the class. Limited space, so we need to know how many will be coming to paint. Thanks! Have fun!
