SNCA School of Visual Arts
Summer 2009 Quarter Courses

Register Now for New Summer Art Courses. Classes begin July 6th and finish the week of August 6th for Session I and September 11th for Session II.

If you are interested in joining an art class, be sure to stop by or call the Center to check the availability. A waiting list is kept for filled classes. You can now register and reserve your class online as well as in person at the Center.


Mondays 12:30 - 2:30 PM

Pottery: Handbuilding (5 week sessions)
Session I Surface Decoration
Session II Sculptural Designs and Intro to the Wheel

Join us for some hands on creative clay building as we use various surface techniques to enhance and design unique hand-built pieces. The first session will emphasize various textural concepts and techniques, and we will move into three dimensional sculptural design in the second session. You can take either session, or both. Both sessions will include some demonstration and introduction to wheel throwing. The fee for each session is $130 for SNCA Members or $140 for Non-Members. Sign up for both sessions at $230 for SNCA Members or $245 for Non-Members.

Mon 3:00 - 5:00 PM

Acrylics
Session I Basic Acrylic Painting
Session II Folk Art Acrylics

This fun course will teach you all the basics of using Acrylic paints including watercolor style washes as well as impasto and oils look. we will paint on a variety of surfaces to help you understand the versatility of the medium. A fun approach to subject matter, as well as learning to capture realism will be covered. You will learn all the ins and outs of the medium. No previous experiment in painting or in acrylics is necessary. This is a perfect medium for those new to painting. The second five week session will focus on Folk Art in Acrylics. The fee for each session is $130 for SNCA Members or $140 for Non-Members. Sign up for both sessions at $230 for SNCA Members or $245 for Non-Members.

Tues 12:30 - 2:30PM

Beginning Pastels
This course is for those new to pastels. The five week course will be a complete overview of the medium. All materials will be available so you can try out the medium before you commit to buying supplies. continuation course will be offered in the fall. Cost for the five week session is $130 for SNCA Members and $140 for Non-Members.

Tues 3:00 - 5:00 PM

Oil Painting
This studio class will focus on learning specific skills in oil painting. Demos and work in class will be done weekly on a new subject. This class is geared to the student who already has some experience in painting with oils. Work will be paced to accomplish a new study weekly in class with follow up at the students choice of subject matter. Class is hands-on painting. The cost for the 10 week session is $230 for SNCA Members or $245 for Non-Members.

Tues 7:30 - 9:30 PM

Pottery: Handbuilding
This studio class will focus on learning specific skills in handbuilding with clay. Come work in our pottery studio and create form and functional designs that can be glazed as well. Class will be taught by Suzanne Reese Zicardi. This special five-week Evening Session is great for those who work or for those who are night owls. Cost for the five week session is $130 for SNCA Members or $140 for Non-Members.

Plein Aire
Session I Painting and Drawing
Session II Painting and Drawing with Daily Watercolor Demo
Meet with us each week at new locations around the Sautee Valley. Enhance your observational skills in seeing your subject matter. There is nothing better than an opportunity to paint or draw on location to increase your representational skills. Demonstrations and lessons in drawing, composition and perspective are part of the daily schedule. During the second session, there will be a daily Watercolor demonstration with Jim Chapman. Work in drawing, pastels, watercolor or oils as your primary medium. You may elect to take all ten classes or any five to fit your summer schedule. The cost for any 5 classes is $130 for SNCA members or $140 for Non-Members. The 10 week session is $230 for SNCA Members or $245 for Non-Members.

Wed 1:00 - 3:00 PM    

Session I Printmaking & Mixed Media
Session II Fabric Collage
This wonderful class in printmaking techniques will lead you to explore various methods to create original artworks with various printmaking methods and materials that do not rely on having a press. Monoprinting, collagraphs and relief prints are just a few of the types we will explore. Perfect opportunity to print on fabrics and use in Session II where we will use hand-designed and surface decorated fabrics for unique art fabric collages. The fee for each session is $130 for SNCA Members or $140 for Non-Members. Sign up for both sessions at $230 for SNCA Members or $245 for Non-Members.
