Studio Courses in Pastels

Pastels I, II, III and IV

Needing a prior knowledge of seeing and interpreting values, this course teaches techniques of applying and blending pastels for achieving the most brilliant colors possible. Major emphasis is placed upon sequence of application as well as procedures for blending. As class advances, techniques using various surfaces and a variety of different pastels will be explored. Preparing your own surfaces and learning a variety of under painting approaches will be covered in this very versatile medium. Once the elementary techniques have been acquired, students begin working independently. Good drawing skills are important for rendering realism, while some abstraction of form and utilizing design as a focus, will be included in these lessons. Classes run sequentially and build on prior skills learned from previous classes.
