Chinese Brush Painting
This class teaches the classic approach to painting Chinese watercolor
technique in the Spontaneous Style. While familiarity with watercolor
painting is sometimes helpful, it is not mandatory. Traditional
materials will be used, and aspects of the historical and cultural
basis of the art will also be explored with stress on understanding
the simplicity involved in the style. Chinese brush painting is
a fun experience as well as one that provide some thought provoking
insight into this Chinese art form.
Abstraction
Requiring a basic familiarity with handling your own choice of
medium, this class aims to offer an experimental approach to free
abstraction as well as representational abstraction. You may work
in any medium. Emphasis is on the development of an individual's
direction and encouraging personal vision. Supervision involves
a dialogue on contemporary art as well as applying creative resolutions
in your painting /drawing. Wonderful creative freedom, even for
representational painters, this class will help free up and loosen
your painting approach in other areas.
Color Studies for all Media
This course teaches theories and application of color using the
color wheel as a reference tool. Emphasis is placed on how to see
color and how to create any color one sees while working with your
own assortment of palette and color choices. This class is open
to anyone who is interested in learning fist hand about color,
color mixing, and color theory in a way practical to your own art
applications. If your interest is in watercolor, color pencils,
acrylics and any other water medium, or you just want to learn
the basics about color, you are invited to attend. No formal painting
or drawing skills required.
Folk Art: An Exploration of Styles and
Genre
This exciting course on traditional and current folk art styles
will get your creative juices fired up for sure. You will be amazed
at the wealth of artistic expression that forms the basis for many
cultural and regional art forms many of which are the backbone
of current trends in decorative and expressive painting. Class
will cover many well known styles such as outsider art and naïve
styles as well as primitivism and neo-primativism. Part lecture,
part in depth exploration with various painting materials, you
may choose your medium to work in as we create original artwork
in the various styles.
Printmaking:
These classes will explore the various diverse and expressive
forms of printing, covering a brief history of the many processes.
Each class series will cover several choices, such as of monoprinting,
collagraphy, relief printing, screen printing, linocut and woodblock
printing to name a few. Detailed pencil drawings to bold abstractions
can be rendered with the printing process, and the style range
is unlimited.. Media technique will be demonstrated in class with
plenty of time for students to experiment. Additional class topics
will include in depth look at new inks and ways of using color
and printing, plus current directions in using stencils à la
poupé, chine collé, , digital media, viscosity, multiple
plates, relief, collage paper lithography, photocopy transfer and
using registration techniques. All in all an exciting subject and
a class that could go in many directions. To be scheduled at later
